Romans 11:1-36
In Chapter 11:1-12, we see the Bible continue to prophetically and historically reveal Israel’s past, present and future. Most Jews have not believed in Jesus, but God’s word has not failed. Even in unbelief, the Jews are a special people. God has preserved them through centuries of hardship, not because He does not care for the Jews, but because He does. Though not every individual Jewish person believes and is saved, God is fulfilling His covenant. God is saving a remnant of Jews (and Gentiles) who belong to the one people of God. Jewish people are not an a separate salvation track. God’s plan of restoration always included Israel’s rejection of Jesus. Israel’s ‘stumbling’ is used by God for good purposes. The Jew’s rejection of Jesus brought salvation of Gentiles. And the Gentiles’ salvation will one day make Israel envious and Israel will desire the same good gift and seek God. We all come to God one way: through faith in Jesus Christ.
In 11:13-36 we learn only Jesus death takes away sin. Paul talks about the Olive Tree and we learn 6 lessons:
1. God has only one people.
2. God’s people bear fruit
3. Gentiles contribute nothing to salvation
4. Jew contribute nothing to salvation
5. Gentiles dare not boast
6. God is both kind and stern.
In the end, there will be a time of repentance and spiritual blessing for Israel. As a group, Jews will come to faith in Jesus the Messiah in the last days. Gold will not reject Israel finally. At last, as prophesied, our faithful God will bring the masses of Israel to faith in Jesus Christ, who died to save them from their sin.
In the Doxology of verses 33-36, it is worth the time to reflect all the attributes of God Paul lists. ‘To Him be the glory forever! Amen.
Psalm 86:1-17
This is a prayer for today. I encourage each of us to insert our name, children’s names and spouses name in this prayer and lift this up to God. I also feel we can pray this prayer for our Nation. Especially in verses 14-17. If you are inclined to pray for America, this is great scripture to pray:
‘Teach America your way Lord, that she may rely on your faithfulness; give her an undivided heart, that she may fear your name. America will praise you, Lord our God, with all her heart; She will glorify your name forever. For Great is your love toward her; you have delivered her from the depth, from the realm of the dead.
Arrogant foes are attacking her, O God; ruthless people are trying to kill her – they have no regard for You. But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger , abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to America and have mercy on her; show your strength in behalf of her, save her, because she served you. Give her a sign of your goodness and her enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, Lord, have helped her and comforted her.’ —- Mary Mauderer
