Job 3:1-26

In this chapter Job speaks his opening lament.

He is speaking to no one in particular as he expresses the depth of his suffering.
His existence had been a great joy to him because of the favor of God, but now his burdens have made his life intolerable.  He comes as close to cursing God in verses 3-10 as he ever will, but he does not do it.  Jeremiah uttered similar words of despair in Jeremiah 20:14-18.
God, in His Word, does not hide that there will be suffering, but in His great love for us, He provided a Savior – Jesus, His Son, that suffered beyond measure – to give us the Promise and the Hope of eternity with Him to those who receive Christ as Savior and Lord.

Verses 11-26 give us a series of Job’s rhetorical questions and despairing answers that envision death and the end of, or in the case of a stillborn birth, prevention of, all suffering.
Clearly he sees death as a much better solution to the suffering he is now experiencing.
Death, to Job, is a place of peace and rest – something he feels he cannot find.

In verse 23, he tells us he feels that God, who had put a hedge of protection around him, has now hemmed him in with turmoil.

We can all related at some level to the struggle of Job.  As we continue in this book of wisdom, we will learn more about God in the light of all of life’s perplexities, such as human suffering.

Again, praise to the Father for sending the suffering Son to provide  man the promised rest and peace of eternity in His presence.           —- Mary Mauderer

—- Ivan Ho

— Bob Liu

—- Elim Du

John 19:1-42

We have reached John’s account of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. John once again recorded the incident in ways the Israelites could understand. One of these ways is to quote the Old Testament the Israelites are familiar with (v. 24, 36, 37). John does this in hopes to resonate and give credibility to Jesus and His acts…He indeed IS the Messiah! What Jesus did on the cross was in line with Old Testament prophecies. At this time, all of the mysterious parables Jesus spoke in the previous chapters of John all points to this moment, and later on after the resurrection.

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,

Yet He did not open His mouth;

Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,

And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,

So He did not open His mouth.

The verse above clearly described what happened in our passage doesn’t it? Yet, it was drawn directly from Isaiah 53:7 in the Old Testament, a time way before Jesus came to the earth.

The Bible speaks in miraculous way in our heart. Once you see how God reveal His Godliness through His Words you will likely grow firmer in Him.

John 18:1-40

The time has come. Jesus was rejected by his disciples, by his people, and by the Roman soldiers and officials.

The scenes in this chapter were surreal – the accusing were frantic and confrontational; the accused was calm and rational.

‘…, he was led like a lamb to the slaughter…’ (Isa 53:7b)
Jesus, the Lamb of God.

He came to die; He came to save.
If we are on the side of truth, we ought to listen to Jesus. The incomprehensible love should overcome us and make us confess and regret for our sin – we were no better than the Jews nor Gentiles – all men fall short of the glory of God and are destined to perish.
If we are on the side of truth, we should recognize that there is no other name we would be saved from the wrath, only by Jesus’ redemption.
If we are on the side of truth, we should follow Him and walk in His path… Lord, help us to understand how limited we are and how great you are, help us to remain in you and stay on the side of truth, your side. Amen.         —- Ivy Lin

John 17:1-26

John 17 is sometimes called the ‘Holy of Holies’ of the entire Bible.

Jesus, as representative of man, prays here.
In the Old Testament, the high priest carried the names of all the tribes of Israel upon his heart when he entered God’s presence.
Likewise, in John 17, Jesus carried on His heart all who believed in Him then, who believe in Him now, and all who are yet to believe in Him.  His prayer is for those God called His own, those whom God had given Him.
As our High Priest, He is able to help those who are being tempted and is now in Heaven on our behalf.  We know that He is continually praying for each one of us now in the same language of the high priestly prayer of John 17.

Jesus prays to the Father concerning Himself (verses 1-5),
He prays for His disciples present with Him (6-19),
for future believers (20-24)
and how He knows the Father, has made the Father known and will continue to make the Father known (25-26).
This work was increasingly fulfilled at the Cross and through the indwelling Holy Spirit following Jesus’ return to heaven.

Jesus left heaven and came to earth for us.  He prayed for His own while he was alone with His disciples.  He suffered immeasurable pain and grief on the way to and while on the cross for us.  He rose on the third day and defeated Satan for us.  He ascended back into heaven and sits at the Father’s right hand, interceding for us.
And one day – HE WILL RETURN and gather us – those whom God has given Him.
He did this for _______.  Put YOUR name in the blank space.

My prayer:  Thank you so much Jesus.  Words can never express how great your love for me is.  Your righteous blood has covered all my despicable sin and I have been given eternal life with you.

Worship and sing with me this Hymn:

‘Then I shall bow
in humble adoration
And there proclaim,
My God, How Great Thou Art.’                    —- Mary Mauderer

—- Ivan Ho

— Bob Liu

—- Solomon Liu
