2 Kings 19:1-37

Key Verse: (2 Kings 19:30) Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.

A Day of Distress, Rebuke, and Disgrace

Samaria had fallen and Israelites were in captivity (2 Kings 18:10-11). It might be Jerusalem and Judah’s turn; at least that was in the plan of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria. In chapter 18, Assyrian army was dispatched again and demanding an unconditional surrender from Hezekiah and his people. Chapter 19 recorded what happened afterwards:

Although distressed and insulted, in this moment of trial and national crisis, Hezekiah recognized the weakness and limitations of men and sought the comfort and deliverance from the Lord.

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. “(Matthew 19:26b)
The Lord answered Hezekiah’s prayer with Isaiah’s prophesy and His mighty deeds. Assyrian didn’t conquer Jerusalem, instead, in one night a hundred and eighty-five thousands soldiers were killed by the angel of the Lord, and Sennacherib had to return to Nineveh and was slain years later.

The remnant was delivered and kept; the Words were delivered and kept. May we all be reminded that God is the Lord and our refuge when crisis happens.  By His grace and the work of Christ we are delivered and kept.

Lord, thank you for saving us, may we be encouraged by your love and take root below and bear fruit above, lead our lives according to your Words. May all people know you are Lord and God and come to you and believe in you. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.                —- Ivy Lin
